The new EcoDiesel engine is the third generation of the vaunted turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 Engine. This beast delivers increased horsepower and torque, a superb fuel economy and a smooth, quiet ride. This new engine is sure to revolutionize the way that we see the Jeep Gladiator. There have been some significant improvements to contribute to the new EcoDiesel engine’s performance.Â
Jeep has added a new-generation water-cooled turbocharger that increases responsiveness and efficiency during transient conditions. They’ve also redesigned their cylinder head intake ports, improving performance and fuel economy. This engine uses dual overhead camshafts sporting four valves per cylinder. The block is cast with compact graphite iron. It provides extra strength to dampen vibrations, though very strong, it still weighs less than gray cast iron. The new EcoDiesel engine uses a steel crankshaft and connecting rods for extra durability and strength. Another great feature this engine has is that the turbo Charge Air Cooler sits at the base of the grille, in front of the radiator, maximizing cooler temperatures.
